The Bridal Industry: Love is a Business Too
The industry of weddings is an industry made up of various smaller enterprises such as caterers, dressers, wedding consultants, photographers, musicians, favors/bridesmaids gifts, hair suppliers, makeup suppliers, and other beauty suppliers, among others. And although the industry as a whole signifies a great deal of money, each one of the constituent parts is much smaller (some being smaller than others). These small amalgamated suppliers are often very local and thus very small and privately owned—normally the kinds of businesses that do not usually report financial information to agencies other than the IRS. Therefore, the bridal industry differs from larger industries, encompassed on multiple public companies which are required to file with the SEC, facilitating gathering information about them.
In addition, several of the smaller parts of the bridal industry such as caterers, photographers, musicians, invitations, and wedding favors often do other events as well, without necessarily dividing their businesses into bridal and non-bridal. Also, due to the fact that some of the businesses and individuals who offer products services may not be able to work full-time on wedding-related services to complement their profits or for some other reason, there will be either a small charge or no charge at all.
Overall industry numbers may be hard to come by, and thus other ways to gather information could be necessary. A good way is searching local newspapers, which can provide information on a regional market. Additionally, contacting local people will provide someone who knows about the local scene. Finally, browsing through phone books looking under weddings, party planning, catering, event planning, and similar entries helps finding local companies and professionals.
