For more than 50 years, Shoney’s Restaurants have been feeding America’s families. Since they started back in 1968, they have grown and they are proud that a Shoney’s Restaurant is still a place where folks gather to enjoy great food, great service and great company. Shoney's Restaurants have been franchising since 1971. Shoney's Restaurants are headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee and they own, operate and franchise 291 restaurants in 19 states. Shoney’s Restaurants announced that two corporate-owned Shoney’s Restaurants in Louisiana have been purchased and will be operated by franchisee Ben Banerjee. Banerjee will own and operate the restaurants located at 208 Thomas Road, West Monroe, Louisiana and 16 McArthur Drive, Alexandria, Virginia. In addition, Banerjee also owns and operates Shoney’s Restaurants in Natchitoches and Bossier City, Louisiana, and Davie, Florida. Shoney’s current strategy is to increase the number of franchisee-owned restaurants because the brand works best in the hands of franchisees who have strong ties to the community Shoney’s launched an initiative that focuses on re-franchising. As part of this initiative, new franchisees receive more in-the-field training, restaurants will receive a new look and a new franchisee agreement was developed that encourages greater involvement in marketing decisions from operators. The focus on re-franchising has paid off. Refranchising has played an important role in returning Shoney’s to the brand it once was. Franchisees now have more say in marketing efforts and are considered important contributors to our renewed success. Their costs and f Fees are a total investment varying from 568,000 to 2,800,000 US dollars, a franchise fee of 30,000 US dollars, an ongoing royalty fee varying from 2.5 to3.5 percent and they are ranked, in Entrepreneur Magazine 2006 Franchise 500, at number 464.
