Southwestern Company

Southwestern Company is a MLM or a multi-level marketing based operating business structure which unites direct marketing with franchising where individuals as an independent contractor associate directly with a parent company. These individuals are reimbursed based on their sales of products or service, as well as the sales achieved by the people they bring into the business.

The Southwestern Company has been located in Nashville, Tennessee since 1855, and began helping students finance their education by selling books in 1868. Southwestern markets family-oriented educational reference books and software through a sales force of over 3,000 students each summer.

Students who participate in the program represent approximately 350 colleges and universities from the United States, Canada, and Europe. Their products are sold to families in their homes by these students during their summer breaks. These students are independent contractors and have the opportunity to run their own businesses by purchasing products from Southwestern at wholesale and selling them to customers at retail. Volume library, student handbook, family bible library, health and well ness, the learning companion, children's books and software these are the products of Southwestern Company.

A Southwestern summer is not for everybody. As with any opportunity, there are benefits and challenges. In personal growth section, student dealers gain confidence by facing real challenges. In communication skills, students meet and deal with real people in the real world. In life skills section, students gain independence, self confidence, and leadership skills. In travel challenge section, students see a different part of the country and push themselves to a higher level.

The most successful students work over 75 hours a week. Southwestern has found that students sell better away from their hometown because there are fewer distractions. As independent contractors, the students make profits from the sales they generate. Students leave their comfort zone and establish new relationships with other self-motivated students. There is no limit to the sales a student can make, just as there is no guaranteed income. It’s not exactly glamorous also prestige comes later in the form of experience, recognition and multiple job offers.

The Southwestern Company’s mission is simple to be the best organization in the world at helping young people develops the skills and the character they need to achieve their goals in life. They build people, the people who sell their products, the consumers who benefit from them and the people who become members of their team of employees.
